Spotify, the famous music streaming service platform, is experimenting with a novel feature called “token-enabled playlists.” This feature enables non-fungible token (NFT) holders to link their wallets and enjoy carefully curated music.
As of now, this service is exclusively available to token holders belonging to Fluf, Moonbirds, Kingship, and Overlord communities. These playlists will be updated regularly during the three-month testing phase and will only be accessible to community members through a unique link.
The Web3 gaming and media universe Overlord has announced that holders of its lizard-themed Creepz NFT project can now connect their Web3 wallet on Spotify to access the project’s community-curated “Invasion” playlist. Overlord announced on Twitter that the pilot program is currently only available for Android users in the U.S., U.K., Germany, Australia, and New Zealand.
Spotify has appeared to confirm the details in a tweet reply. The Universal Music Group’s NFT band KINGSHIP has also created a token-gated playlist for NFT holders featuring popular artists such as Queen, Missy Eliott, Snoop Dogg, and Led Zeppelin.
Lead developer for NFT liquidity protocol NFTX Apoorv Lathey tweeted a screenshot from the pilot, showing how NFT holders can connect to their Metamask, Trust Wallet, Rainbow, Ledger Live, or Zerion wallets. Although Spotify has not provided additional details on plans to roll out the feature more broadly in the future, a spokesperson for the company stated that it routinely conducts various tests to improve the user experience.
This news comes after Spotify experimented with integrating NFTs into its service in May 2022, allowing select artists, including Steve Aoki and The Wombats, to promote NFTs on their profiles. As of now, it remains unclear whether the new feature will be available to a broader audience in the future.
With over 489 million users, the global streaming platform has the potential to revolutionize the music industry by leveraging NFT technology, making significant contribution in the growing Web3 economy.
